The Seattle Seahawks have a star-studded rookie class, and a deep roster of young and veteran players to choose from. They have a number of options at the quarterback position.
Russell Wilson, who entered the league as a third-round draft pick in 2012, has become a star. He has a career passer rating of over 900. A seven-time Pro Bowler, Wilson has 93 regular-season wins. As a result, he’s a big reason why the Seahawks are in first place in the NFC West.
With the Seahawks’ retooling, the franchise picked up a top-notch wide receiver duo. Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are two of the most dynamic receivers in the game. Their speed and footwork have helped them connect with Wilson even in tight spots.
While they’re not the most prolific receivers in the league, they’ve combined for a few notable feats. First, they’ve dropped the fewest passes. Second, they’ve scored a few touchdowns.
Myles Adams has been a stud all preseason. During the team’s win over Dallas, he recorded six tackles and a half-a-sack. But he’s also been a liability in pass coverage.
It’s unclear how well Adams will perform against first-team offensive linemen. That said, the former Mississippi State product did post a career-high mark in 2021.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks have a pair of first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. And if a player hasn’t made the team by the time it comes around to draft day in April, he’s likely going to go on waivers.
Who is Number 9 on the Seahawks’ QB Staff?
If you are a Seattle Seahawks fan you must have noticed that Geno Smith is the new guy at the quarterback position. This could be a good thing for the team because they have plenty of talented receivers and a decent defense. The Seahawks aren’t a great pass rusher but the young secondary has helped improve the defense.
It is also no surprise that the Seahawks have had some success on the offensive side of the ball. They have scored touchdowns on three straight possessions and have also had a number of other noteworthy plays.
In addition to Smith’s mid-career revival, the Seahawks added a few high-upside players, including edge rusher Boye Mafe and wide receiver D.K. Metcalf.
The best part about this roster is that they have a chance to make it to the playoffs. They still have eight games to play on their schedule. A win over the Cardinals on Sunday will give them a shot at sole possession of first place in the NFC West. With the addition of Bruce Irvin to the active roster, the Seattle defense may be the most improved in the NFL.
The Seahawks also landed one of the most important moves in the NFL when they traded Russell Wilson to the Oakland Raiders for a package that included tight end Jimmy Graham, wide receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive tackle Bruce Irvin. As a result, they are well on their way to a fifth straight win and the chance to finish the season strong.
Who is Number 48 on the Seahawks’ Team?
There are many factors that go into a player’s ranking on a team. Players can be ranked based on age, experience, or position. In the Seahawks’ case, there are two undeniable factors.
The first is the player’s record in games played in the NFL. This week, Seattle beat Detroit 48-45. With a win, the Seahawks will enter Week 5 with a 2-1 record.
Another factor is the Seahawks’ defense. They had a solid effort, but they also had some mistakes. One was their failure to stop the run. It started on their first series. During that drive, they gave up two plays that were 16 yards or more.
On that same drive, Amani Oruwariye beat Tyler Lockett on a 34-yard catch. But another challenge came in the form of a no-brainer completed pass. As a result, the Seahawks had a turnover battle.
The Seahawks were able to win the turnover battle 2-1. That’s important because it gives them an advantage in games with a high turnover rate.
Another factor was the defensive line. Several of the defensive linemen did not play. Some of them were young, while others were older. However, the defensive line did make a lot of tackles.
One player that did not have a huge game was Charles Cross. He had two penalties.
Then, there was the shaky defensive effort. Even though Seattle outgained the Lions, they did not force a punt. Consequently, they were penalized more than their opponent.
Seahawks Players 2022
With Seattle’s recent trade of Russell Wilson, the Seahawks are now in a multi-year rebuild. The team needs to make major changes to win. It can do that with any number of players. They have the luxury of choosing from young, talented players or older, experienced players.
In addition to the players they brought in via the draft, the Seattle Seahawks have a few notable veterans on the roster. There’s also a solid group of defensive linemen, wide receivers and linebackers. But if they are to get back into the playoffs, they will have to cut some tough losses.
First, they’ll need to cut a first-round pick that hasn’t worked out. While the Seahawks traded away quarterback Max Unger in a 2015 trade for Jimmy Graham, they still need a backup center. Fortunately, they have Charles Cross.
Next, the Seahawks’ wide receiver duo is one of the best in the NFL. Tyler Lockett and Steven Diggs are two of the fastest and strongest receivers in the game, and they’re very good marksmen. Whether they can match that is yet to be seen.
The Seahawks also have a top-tier offensive line, led by Charles Cross. However, the center and offensive tackle will be occupied by defensive tackles. This means they’ll have to play on the outside instead of the inside.
Lastly, the Seahawks have a great linebacker/edge rusher. Uchenna Nwosu has a two-year, $19 million contract with the team. He hasn’t posted big numbers in his two preseason games, but he’s a solid player.
Seahawks Jersey Number History
The Seattle Seahawks have a unique history. Although they have only won one Super Bowl Championship, they have a great deal of success during their 44 years in the NFL. During their time in the league, they have had some interesting uniform numbers. Some of them are retired while others are still worn by players.
The Seattle Seahawks have four jersey numbers that have been retired. These include Steve Largent’s number, which he wore throughout his entire career. Shortly after his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Largent’s number was retired.
Similarly, Jerry Rice wore the number while he was a player for the Seahawks. However, Largent regrets having Rice wear his jersey.
One of the most iconic moments in Seattle Seahawks history was when Percy Harvin returned a kick in the Super Bowl. While only Percy Harvin wore the number in that game, there were a few other players that did wear it.
Defensive back Charlie Whitehurst was a key part of the team’s victory in 2010. He started the season injured Matt Hasselbeck, but in Week 17 against the Rams, Whitehurst was given the starting job.
One of the greatest catches in Seahawks history was made by Jermaine Kearse. Kearse went from Lakes High School to the University of Washington, where he made the go-ahead fourth-quarter touchdown in one NFC Championship game.
In the last year, DeAndre Elliott wore 21. Last season, Eddie Lacy wore 27.
Seahawks Roster 2023
The Seattle Seahawks have been a work in progress since the Russell Wilson trade but their newest roster is a slew of stars. There are a bevy of talented wide receivers and a well-stocked secondary led by Jamey Adams and Dwayne Harris. In short, the Seahawks are ready to be back on the field in the fall of 2023.
They will be able to call up a 16 man practice squad starting on Wednesday. However, the real action will likely be in the preseason, with the defending champs set to battle it out for a division crown. This is also the time of year when teams make their roster decisions, and the competition for snaps is stiff. A good time to lock up your coveted spot on the West Coast is now.
As for the actual game, the Seahawks are on the verge of an epic playoff run with a slew of notables to choose from. Several of these are slated to play in the shadows of the franchise’s most famous player. Others, such as receivers Jermaine Jones and Chris Carson, will look to resurrect their careers after the season.
