Miscues, missed chances cost Raiders in loss to Steelers
Essentially gifted a victory by New England last Sunday on one of the most improbable walk-off touchdowns in NFL history, the Raiders couldn’t keep the momentum going in a 13-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night that all but eliminated them from the playoffs.
Las Vegas led for more than 50 minutes but yielded down the stretch against the emotionally-charged Steelers (7-8), letting Pittsburgh rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett drive 76 yards in 10 plays, the last 14 coming on a strike to rookie wide receiver George Pickens with 46 seconds remaining.
When Derek Carr threw his third and final interception — a floater that Pittsburgh’s Cam Sutton corralled with 29 seconds left — all the good mojo the Raiders had built while winning four of five to get back into the fringe of the postseason race had vanished.
Steelers inactives for Week 16 vs. Raiders
The Steelers will be without safety Terrell Edmunds tonight when they take on the Las Vegas Raiders at Acrisure Stadium.
Edmunds didn’t practice all week, dealing with a hamstring injury that had him listed as questionable going into the game and he is inactive. This is the second game this season Edmunds will miss, also inactive for the Steelers Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills.
With Edmunds out, the Steelers promoted safety Elijah Riley to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
Riley was previously elevated to the Active/Inactive Roster for the Week 10 game against the New Orleans Saints. He was also elevated for the Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills and Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and saw action in both games.
Riley was claimed off waivers from the New York Jets during training camp. He started the last seven games in 2021 for the Jets, after he was signed off the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. He finished with 45 tackles and three tackles for a loss. Riley, who played at Army, originally signed with the Eagles in 2020 as an undrafted rookie free agent.
Raiders fall in another close game, lose 13-10 to Steelers
The offense for the Raiders really stalled in the second half. Despite multiple drives with great field position, Derek Carr took some bad sacks and the offense just couldn’t get out of their own way. They never scored in the second half after taking a 10-3 lead going into halftime.
Carr finished the game with three interceptions and they never had a drive of over 20 yards in the second half. It was another half to forget for Carr.
